Wedding bomboniere a gift given as a gesture of gratitude, appreciation or thank you to the wedding guests from the bride and groom at the wedding reception. A tradition that has been around for centuries. It is believed that the first sweet wedding favour common among the European aristoocrats and was then known as wedding bonbonniere. This wedding bonbonniere was a tiny trinket box which incorporated crystals porcelain and precious stones. Placed inside these decorative boxes were sugar confection which symbolised wealth and royalty. The general population embraced this tradition in time, providing gifts to the wedding guests, as it became affordable. In the 13th century almonds coated with sugar were introduced. It became a tradition of five sugared almonds representing health, wealth, happiness, long life and fertility. The bitterness of the almond and the sweetness of the sugar coating representing the bitter sweetness of marriage. Today, gifts to wedding guests are commonly known as wedding bomboniere or sweet favours and shared in many cultures. Wedding favours have become a necessary part of the wedding ceremony.
